The word LEGEND is often over used but those Wycombe fans who have been following the Club through the last 20 years or so, will surely agree that the squad put together for today’s special fixture contained many Wanderers to whom that honour is certainly justified.
The Wycombe Legends took on the Ex-Royals (of Reading FC) in a special fixture that kicks off our 125th anniversary celebrations and a most entertaining game ended with a 8-3 win for the Wycombe Legends. The visitors took the lead before Scott McGleish equalised late in the first half. However once Tommy Mooney, Darren Currie and Kevin Keen has stretched the lead to 4-1, the result was never in doubt, Keen’s goal going in off Stuart Beavon senior, who was a second half substitute for the Royals. The Reading side did pull one back but further Wycombe goals kept coming courtesy of Keith Scott and Matt Edwards (penalty) before McGleish and Currie each scored again. Beavon made up for his own goal with a penalty just before the end.
Amongst the Legends were Dave Carroll, Mark West, Keith Scott, Keith Ryan, Paul Hyde, Matt Crossley, Glyn Creaser, Jason Cousins, Tommy Mooney, Miguel deSouza, Simon Stapleton, Kevin Keen, Steve Guppy, Scott McGleish, Steve Thompson, Mark West, Darren Currie to name but some. They were joined by Wycombe fans Simon Page and Matt Edwards who had each won the right to appear in this star studded line up
Saturday also saw the launch of the new first choice kit for next season, which will also soon be available to purchase for those fans who didn’t buy one on the day.
