New Owners Meet With Wycombe Council
Following WDC Leader Alex Collingwood’s wish to meet the Trust and to understand the issues arising from the Trust’s acquisition of Wycombe Wanderers FC, Trust Directors Trevor Stroud, Garry Heath and David Cook, spent an hour with Cllr Collingwood, County Councillor David Carroll, Cllr Arif Hussain JP and Chief Executive Karen Satterford on Monday 9th July.
Following a summarised presentation on the acquisition background and plans for the future, all Council members expressed their appreciation and pleasure at what had been achieved in returning the club to the fans and in the importance of having protected the Frank Adams legacy. There was unanimous acceptance of the value to High Wycombe of having a stable and secure football club at its’ heart and in protecting the heritage associated with the club, particularly in the season 2012/13, being the 125th anniversary of the club’s formation.
Whilst the swingeing financial cuts that WDC, in common with all other Councils, are compelled to make will prevent direct financial support being offered to the Trust, WDC is prepared to look at other ways in which help can be provided and further meetings will be arranged as ideas become firmer.
Following earlier meetings in 2011, this latest discussion has confirmed that a constructive dialogue has now been established between the Trust and Wycombe District Council. There can be no doubt that we have the support of a Council that values the importance of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club to the local community and that recognises its’ ability to protect and enhance the heritage associated with High Wycombe.
