Local Lad Makes His Debut

Matt Ingram

One of the disappointments of last Saturday’s game at Burton being postponed was that it prevented Matt Ingram from making his professional debut for his home town team. With Jordan Archer being away on Scotland Under 21 duty, this was the ideal chance for the 19-year-old goalkeeper to make his first appearance.

However with Archer having been recalled by Tottenham Hotspur, Matt was called up to make his debut today against Accrington and he will likely now be Wycombe’s first choice goalie for the rest of this season.

His debut looked like being a successful one as he barely got his gloves dirty in a game of few chances. Then in the 94th minute the young goalie was beaten by a shot from just inside the penalty box from a player who was perhaps lucky still to be on the pitch after he kicked out at Ingram early in the game, only to receive a yellow card.

Matt had been recalled from a highly successful loan spell at Blue Square North side Oxford City, where he had put in several outstanding performances.

The former John Hampden School pupil who was born in Wycombe Hospital and brought up in the area, still lives in Hazlemere.  Matt has been at Wycombe Wanderers since he was 12 and been working his way up the ladder.
