Well Done – Matty Phillips – Young Player of the Month

Congratulations go out to former Wycombe Wanderer Matt Phillips who recently won the Football League’s young player of the month award for January. (Photo courtesy of www.bbc.co.uk)

Born in Aylesbury, Matt joined Wycombe at the age of eight, and made his first team debut in 2008 at the age of just 17. He made 85 first team appearances for us, scoring eight goals, before joining Blackpool, then in the Premier League in August 2010.

Earlier this season, Matt went out on loan to Sheffield United, scoring six goals in seven games for the Blades before returning to Blackpool where he has continued to impress and score! This success has this week earned him a call up to the full Scotland squad, courtesy of a grandparent connection, even though he played for England  in the Under 20′s World Cup.

Wycombe fans will keenly follow Matt Phillips future, not only a  much loved WWFC youth who “came good”‘ but also that a future transfer or Blackpool making a return to the top flight may result in more funds for the Adams Park coffers.
