Stung By The Bees
Saturday saw the Wanderers make the short trip to West London (which made a change from the M6) to take on Brentford but we came away only with a 5-2 defeat that puts Wycombe bottom of League One. However there are still only four points spanning the bottom seven teams.
Wycombe made a bright start but fell behind after 10 minutes when Gary Alexander was left unmarked to head in an easy goal from a left wing cross. Brentford doubled their lead midway through the half as Sam Saunders hit a low drive into the net after we had failed to clear the ball. But by the half hour it was three, with Alexander again scoring from close range.
T
he Blues came out for the second half in a 4-4-2 formation with substitute Ainsworth on the right wing and soon they were on the scoresheet as Dave Winfield rose to head in Grant Basey’s free kick. For a while it looked like a recovery was possible but on 73 mins, Brentford restored their three goal margin thanks to Diagouraga again from close range. But Wycombe were not done yet and Ben Strevens got another goal back with a near post toe poke after Joel Grant had done good work along the goal line. However Alexander was not to be denied his hat trick and put the game beyond all doubt with a fine volley on 81 minutes. It could have been worse with other chances for the home team missed.
