Football in Sands Before Adams Park
In the 1950’s life in Sands was somewhat different from today. With two post offices, a dairy, newsagent, butcher and greengrocer, a hardware store, a garage with mechanics who had grease on their hands from repairing cars, a police house and a “tardis” type police box, its own Primary and Secondary schools, Sands was a self-sufficient village. With relatively few cars, most people travelled into Wycombe on either the 36 bus from Lane End, the 38 bus from Limmer Lane or the 42 bus from Bookerhill, all of which stopped at the Hour Glass pub. Throwing Down the Gauntlet
Ron Waller, star of SMBU, tells us what he thinks the new Trust should be for.I was asked what I want from a newly-merged Wycombe Wanderers Trust, but I think I’ll try and be slightly less demanding and write what I’d like to see from it instead. I’ll probably drift off and start preaching a bit, but I’ll try my best not to. I should say at this point that there’ll be massive holes in arguments and plenty to pick further holes in, but I’d like to get the ball rolling.

Colin Smith - 1952-2008
The Board of Wycombe Wanderers Trust sadly notifies members that Colin Smith passed away in the early hours of Wednesday 15th October 2008 following a short illness. Colin grew up in High Wycombe before moving to Tring. He was an avid supporter and season ticket holder of Wycombe Wanderers for many years, having watched the Blues on a regular basis since the early nineteen seventies. Colin was a familiar face to many around the Vere Suite and Adams Park on Wanderers' match days. He was a Founder Member of the Club and Company Secretary of the Founders Trust, a role that he continued to undertake within the recently unified Wycombe Wanderers Trust. Colin was interested in sport in general but football in particular was a large part of his life. He served as a Council Member with Hertfordshire Football Association from 1976 until 2003, where he held a number of key positions including Secretary to the Disciplinary Committee, Chairman of the Competitions Committee and Vice Chairman of Council. Colin had an enduring interest in non-league football and from 1976 to 1988 was a Committee Member of Tring Town Football Club, where he held the position of Assistant Secretary during Tring Town's period of membership of the Athenian and Isthmian Leagues. Colin was an active supporter of charity fund-raising and was a key player in the team co-ordinating Wycombe Wanderers' activities with the Club's first Charity of the Year, Iain Rennie Hospice at Home. David McGee, Chairman of Wycombe Wanderers Trust, commented: “I first came to know Colin when I put out a call for help in establishing the Founders Trust. Colin, along with Ian Mather, responded to the call and between the three of us, we got the Founders Trust up and running. Colin’s experience of football administration made him an ideal choice as a Director of the Founders Trust and for the position of Company Secretary, a role that he carried out with efficiency and great enthusiasm. Colin had a tremendous sense of humour and was regarded as a true gentleman by everyone that met him. He will be sorely missed as a friend and a dedicated colleague by everyone involved with the Trust and the Club.” Colin had no immediate family, but had a large family of friends who will truly miss him.posted in special-features | 20.11.2008. 21:35 | Write a comment
