Matt Joins the Board

The WW Trust Board held their first meeting this week since the recent AGM and welcomed a new Director onto the Trust Board in Matt Clarke.

Matt started supporting Wycombe Wanderers in the late 1970′s. Growing up, football was a big part of his life, both supporting and playing before retiring due to a serious knee injury at 19. He and his Dad followed Wycombe all over the country and in recent years has introduced his son, Jack to the fold.

He was an integral part of the “No To Booker” campaign. Matt’s main aim is to show the benefits of membership to the younger supporters and serve all supporters to the best of his ability.

Details of all the Trust Board members can be found by clicking on this link

Stay And Support The Team

(One person’s opinion)
Why oh why were our fans leaving on 85 minutes tonight?

We had just got back in the game at 2-3 and were pushing for an equaliser, yet some still feel the need to leave rather than encourage their team onto the end when we could have ‘snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat’.

It’s not like we have a 60,000 crowd leaving the Emirates Stadium with only one train line for them all. We had 3,529 fans and all who stayed were soon on the move after the game! The team could do with all possible support when pushing for what might have been a vital point and anything could happen in those last 5 minutes plus the 5 added on! It’s not like the game was done with a clear result either way!

As for the game itself, we were perhaps lucky to go in 1-0 up at half time thanks to Stuart Beavon’s clean strike from a Matty Whichelow pass. However more abject defending and a vital midfield error in losing the ball when going forward led to Yeovil scoring 3 times in 15 mins before substitute Joel Grant pulled one back soon after coming on.

But it was not to be! We go again at Walsall on Saturday – another game we really need to win!

Too Much TV Football?

As I sat down reviewing the TV magazine for the week ahead, this thought came into my mind! Is TV damaging the game that feeds it?

This week we Wycombe fans have the prospect of looking forward to games against two of our rivals for survival – Yeovil at home on Tuesday night and Walsall away on Saturday. With the latter being one of our shorter trips this season, hopefully a good number will make the trip to the Banks’s Stadium to get behind the Blues.

Yet for those who choose to stay in their armchair, this was what the magazine offered for live viewing:
Saturday – 2 Premier games, lunchtime and evening (or Championship evening game)
Sunday – 2 Premier games in afternoon
Monday – League Two evening game
Tuesday – Champions League evening (no British involvement)
Wednesday – Champions League evening (Arsenal)
Thursday – 2 Europa League games (Man City and Man Utd)
Friday – Championship evening game
and next weekend is the 5th round of the FA Cup!

That schedule does not include Match of the Day or all the other programmes of highlights over the weekend and during the week.

Whilst the money from the TV companies is required within the game (if only to fund such enormous salaries at the top end!), the current recession seems to be have a damaging effect on attendances at the rounds, with even the Premier League games not selling out as they used to. Not surprising also when you can stay at home and see all of the above for the cost of a TV licence and Sky/ESPN subscriptions.

What needs to be done?

I still get sufficient ‘buzz’ from going to see my team play a live match, not knowing what will happen, hoping for the best result but sometimes expecting the worst! Is however the phrase “And It’s Live” now too commonplace at home?

I would love to know what other fans feel about this. Add your comments please.

Brave and Encouraging But Another Defeat

Wycombe bravely held out for over an hour against Sheffield United but eventually went down to a 3-0 defeat at Bramall Lane. Though at least two of their goals could go down as being slighty fortunate with deflections not helping the Blues.

From the commentary, it sounded like the more defensive formation was doing its job but when the barrier was breached, the home side went on to a comfortable victory. Stuart Beavon was his usual lively self up front and Matt Bloomfield again worked hard attacking from midfield.

Not much time to dwell on this defeat as we go again for perhaps a more important game, at home to Yeovil on Tuesday night. Kick off at Adams Park is 7.45pm
