Yet Again! A Late Point Gained

For the third game in a row, Wanderers got their equaliser in the 90th minute with a goal by Stuart Lewis to take a well deserved point which edges them closer to the sides above.

Wycombe fell behind just after the hour when a shot by J-P McGovern hit the bar before striking the unfortunate Grant Basey and going into the net.

But as against MK Dons and Stevenage, the home side fought back well, made several chances before their late equaliser.

Winners today were Tranmere and Scunthorpe but there were defeats for Leyton Orient and Exeter.

Another Late Point Gained

After last weeks 92nd minute equaliser against the MK Dons, Wanderers left it even later at Stevenage.

They went behind in the 85th minute when Bostwisk curled a shot past Nikki Bull, but the same spirit as last week surfaced to bring the Blues an equaliser in the 4th minute of added on time. Craig Eastmond was unfairly bundled off the ball in the box and it was the player sponsored by your Trust Board Members, Grant Basey, who confidently took responsibility for the penalty. Basey (right) tucked the ball deep into the corner of the net to send more than 700 Wycombe fans into raptures.

Walsall, who had been 2-0 up, then 2-3 down at Rochdale, finally ended up with a 3-3 draw, so the gap is still 2 points. Winners in the bottom half were Bury and Scunthorpe, with draws also for Yeovil and Exeter. Preston, Tranmere, Oldham, Leyton Orient and Chesterfield were (for them) on the wrong end of their matches.

Beaver and Bully Help Gain Us a Point

A great point was earned today when Stuart Beavon headed in from Gareth Ainsworth’s corner in the second of four added on minutes. That point is enough to keep Wycombe in 20th place and still ahead of Walsall who also drew today.

In only the tenth minute of the first half, Nikki Bull had pulled off a wonderful penalty save, his third in succession,  and the skipper for the day went on to keep his side in the game with more good blocks and saves in both halves. Shortly after the restart the visitors went ahead, when a through ball was mis-judged leaving Powell to slot it into the corner of Bull’s net.

But Wycombe, today missing Bloomfield, Winfield, Foster, Johnson and the departed Paul Hayes, never gave up and kept going right to the end. With Bully coming up for the corner, it was Beavon who timed his run and jump the best to head the ball into the roof of the net.

Out of Bottom Four With Another Away Win

That’s what we want to hear, not only now but at the end of this season.

Another magnificent Wycombe win tonight by 3-1 at Exeter, coupled with Walsall only getting a draw at Sheffield Wednesday, is enough to take the Blues above the Saddlers and into 20th place.

Thanks to two goals from Paul Hayes and one from Stuart Beavon – his 21st of the season – in a superb second half display after the score was goalless at the break. These back to back away wins have given Wycombe a real chance of survival.

In the part of League One that we care about, there were also wins tonight for Bournemouth, Oldham, Leyton Orient and Tranmere.

Bury and Scunthorpe played out a goalless draw, Preston also got a point, whilst Walsall were winning until the final kick of the game, only to be pegged back to a draw.

Yeovil lost at Charlton; Chesterfield and Rochdale both lost at home.

Happy 50th Birthday Gary

Saturday 17th March is our Manager Gary Waddock’s 50th Birthday.

The Trust would like to send Gary our very best wishes for a happy birthday and we are glad that his side have topped it off by bringing home the 3 points from Bury.

A superb hat trick from Stuart Beavon and another goal from Paul Hayes were enough to beat Bury who scored one but then hit a post with a penalty.

It Was Bound to Happen – Our First Goalless Draw of the Season

After home wins by 5-0 and 4-2 and an offer of some free tickets if there were 3 goals today, it was destined to be a 0-0 draw and so it was!

But if you can’t win the game, then best not to lose it and that point gained might be crucial.

Whilst Wycombe had more of the possession and out-cornered their opponents by 11 to 1, there were few goal scoring opportunities, both sides having just 3 shots on target.

Five other sides in the bottom half drew today and the only winners were Yeovil and Tranmere, with defeats for Bury, Exeter, Oldham and Leyton Orient.
