WW Trust Supports Safe Standing

There was due to be a second reading of the Safe Standing Bill on Friday 25th Nov in the Commons. The Trust had written to Wycombe MP Steve Baker indicating their support for the bill and encouraging him to vote in favour.
However as the Bill was number 32 in the schedule of Bills to be heard on that day, it is extremely unlikely that it will have been debated.
Don Foster MP for Bath, introduced the Safe Standing Bill to the Commons on the 7th December 2010.  The Bill seeks to give all football clubs the freedom to build, or maintain existing, safe standing sections in their stadia if they choose and to establish minimum safety criteria that must be met for standing sections in football stadia and for connected purposes.
Steve Baker has indicated that he is sympathetic to the issues that Don Foster raises in his Bill and is writing to the Minister in support.
However Aylesbury MP David Lidington has received a response from the Minister for Sport which you can read here Response from DCMS

Statement issued by Steve Hayes

The owner of Wycombe Wanderers and London Wasps has today issued a statement that he is seeking new owners for the the rugby club.

Click here to read what he has to say

The WW Trust response is as follows:

After a period of time when intentions were unclear, the Wycombe Wanderers Trust notes, with interest, the announcement made by Steve Hayes in respect of his intention to seek a buyer for London Wasps and his commitment to Wycombe Wanderers for the foreseeable future.

The announcement is clearly much more related to Wasps at this stage and as such a purchase price for London Wasps is not something that interests or concerns the Trust. We would agree that careful consideration of the dis-entanglement of the previously merged administration must be covered in any discussions with any prospective buyer and we will ensure this isssue is tackled sensibly and clearly once any buyer is identified and discussions progressed. This process should help clarify the true costs of running WWFC as a single entity.

The Trust looks forward to continuing to work with Steve Hayes and his management team to ensure the long term security of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club.

WDC Cabinet Meeting Outcome

Wycombe Wanderers Trust has noted the decision of Wycombe District Council, at the Cabinet Meeting of 18th July, not to move forward with the Sporting Village project.

The Cabinet’s unanimous decision was taken on a combination of concerns in respect of development on an area of Green Belt and AONB and on financial prudence, given the uncertain benefits compared with the very real costs and risks associated with the proposal.

The Trust will be arranging discussions with Steve Hayes, and will welcome further discussions with WDC to discuss how Wycombe Wanderers can move forward at Adams Park, and the part that it can play in the next era of WWFC.
