David McGee will take over as Wycombe Wanderers Trust’s Supporters’ Director on the PLC board following the recent resignation of Keith Blagbrough from the role. At a Trust board meeting on 12th January, there was unanimous support for David taking on the role until the election of a Supporters’ Director by the Trust members. To ensure that David has a manageable workload, the Trust’s Vice-Chairman, Francis Glenister, will take over as the Trust’s Chairman until the AGM and elections in the spring. Francis commented, “It is vital that the Trust maintains its two representatives on the Wycombe Wanderers PLC board. The Trust’s board needs to appoint an appropriate person promptly to undertake the vacant PLC board role for the period until elections are held.” “David is a Director of a Wycombe based firm and understands how businesses work. He will bring good experience to the boardroom along with his long standing support and passion for Wycombe Wanderers. I speak for the entire Trust’s board when I say that we are delighted that he has agreed to take on this role and we know that he will do a great job.” Upon accepting the role as Supporters’ Director David commented, “This is a very difficult role which comes with a great deal of responsibility. I’m looking forward to the challenge.” In his new role, David will work alongside Ian Mather, the Trust’s Founders’ Director. David and Ian will be in the Vere Suite before Saturday's match against Grimsby to answer questions and queries from supporters. Full details of the Trust's AGM and elections will be made available to members in due course. KEITH BLAGBROUGH RESIGNS FROM PLC BOARD
Wycombe Wanderers Trust announces that with immediate effect Keith Blagbrough has resigned from his position as one of the Trust’s Directors on the board of Wycombe Wanderers Football Club PLC*. Keith will continue to serve as a board member of the Trust. On his decision to resign Keith stated ‘Wycombe Wanderers Football Club has given me great pleasure over the years and being a Director has enabled me to repay the Club for this in some way. It has been a great honour that supporters elected me to this post but I feel that, having completed over 4 years in the post, it is time to stand aside.’ The Trust’s Board are extremely grateful to Keith for both his hard work and the diligent manner in which he has executed his duties over the past 4 years. Trust Chairman David McGee commented ‘Keith has selflessly dedicated a great deal of time and energy to Wycombe Wanderers over a long period of time. The Club and the Trust are extremely lucky to have benefited from Keith’s passion and commitment to this Football Club.’ Francis Glenister, Trust Deputy Chairman, praised Keith for being instrumental in creating the original Supporters Trust, ‘Keith was a founder member of the Supporters Trust and dedicated many hours to ensuring that the Supporters Trust was not only successfully launched but also achieved its challenging target of acquiring 100,000 ordinary shares in the PLC.’ The Trust’s Board will appoint a replacement PLC Director in the near future. The replacement will serve until the Trust’s AGM and elections are held in the spring of this year. All Trust members will be asked to vote in this election. The Trust’s rules require that only members, who are also directors of the Trust, can undertake the roles of its PLC Directors. Any member interested in joining the Trust’s Board should contact the Trust’s Chairman, David McGee (dm@wwst.org), for further details. Membership is just £10 per year and supporters can sign up at: http://www.wycombewandererstrust.com/page/membership/
* The Trust’s membership elects two Directors to the PLC Board. The Supporters’ Director (the role which Keith has fulfilled) is elected by the entire Trust membership. The Founders’ Director (currently Ian Mather) is voted by Qualifying Members. Qualifying Members are those members of the Trust who hold a Founder Share and/or hold a season ticket at the Football Club for the current season and have held a season ticket at the Football Club for the previous three complete seasons and/or are full-time or part-time employees of the Football Club in the fourth year or more of continuous employment with the Football Club.
WYCOMBE WANDERERS TRUST: WHAT IS IT FOR?
Why Wycombe Wanderers Trust?Wycombe Wanderers Trust has been formed from its two predecessors - the Founders Trust and the Supporters Trust. Whilst the two had been working closely together, the merger helps to overcome a number of problems. Supporter representation to the Club was fragmented. There was confusion among Wanderers fans about the roles and responsibilities of the two Trusts. There was twice the call on the time of those willing to work for the Trusts. And there was a lot of overlap in the membership, with members of both required to pay two fees and the Trusts having to bear the costs of two lots of administration. Building on our strengths There is no impact from the merger on the key strengths of the individual Trusts. Wycombe Wanderers Trust retains both seats on the Football Club Board and the Supporters Trust’s £100,000 shareholding. It will continue to have the same say in the safeguarding of the Club’s heritage as the Founders Trust. But crucially, it will also provide a single voice and a more efficient use of supporters’ time and money. Increasing involvement Wycombe Wanderers Trust aims to:
- represent supporters’ interests in the Club through two Directors elected to the Club Board
- continue to protect the Club’s heritage
- increase membership and involvement
- provide a clear point of supporter contact for the PLC
- enhance community involvement with the Club
- improve communication with supporters
- be inclusive and affordable to all Our short-term aims are to increase the Trust membership from the current 365 Chairboys fans and to advise our members on the current developments over the Club finances, the new ground and the 25% shareholding threshold. Membership is only £10 (less for concessions). Join up here.
